Food Box Request

The Grocery Program assists households to overcome short-term challenging circumstances. Our goal is to provide 3 or more days of food for each household. A household can access this program once a month. Food box contents vary based on the size of the household, the age(s) of the recipients, food allergies and dietary restrictions, and what we have available to distribute at the time. We cannot guarantee specific items will be included.

Access schedules for this program vary by location.

    Namgis Community Services produces the food box list each month for Alert Bay residents. You can sign up by phoning them at 250-974-5356, or you can submit this online form. The sign-up deadline is 4:00 pm on Friday one week before the distribution day. Requests received after the deadline will be added to the list for the following month.

    On the Friday after the first Wednesday of each month food boxes are delivered to the LAM Rec Centre and are normally available for pick-up between 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 pm. Namgis Community Services handles distribution; let them know in advance if you will be unable to make it or your food box may be given to someone else.

    On the third Wednesday of the month food boxes are distributed in the parking lot at the Seaview Activity Centre at 1:30 p.m. and should be picked up from our truck at that time. Let us know in advance if you will be unable to make it or your food box may be given to someone else.

    The food box list is produced each month by local volunteers and the food bank. You can sign-up by phoning the food bank at 250-902-0332, or you can submit this online form. The sign-up deadline is noon on the Monday before the distribution day. Requests received after the deadline will be added to the list for the following month.

    Food boxes are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at our Market Street location between noon and 1:00 pm every Friday (except the last Friday of each month and holidays).

    We try to keep barriers to access as low as possible. Our only requirement is that original ID must be provided for all members of your household on each visit. Acceptable forms of ID incorporate at least full name and date of birth. Photo ID is not required. Social Insurance cards and bank cards are not accepted.

    On the second Wednesday of the month food boxes for Port McNeill residents are distributed from our truck at the Island Foods parking lot at 8:30 am. Local volunteers deliver food boxes to those who are unable to pick-up on their own (prior arrangement required).

    The sign-up deadline is 4:00 pm on the first Wednesday of the month. Requests received after the deadline will be added to the list for the following month. If you miss the sign up deadline or if this schedule isn't workable, a food box for your household can be picked up from our Port Hardy location on any Friday (except the last Friday of each month and holidays) between noon and 1:00 pm. Bring original ID for everyone in your household.
